Hello Momma Friends!
As you’re thinking of back to school (homeschool or public) clothing shopping, don’t forget to check the local consignment shops and thrift stores. You can find lots of great deals and avoid the big crowds!
For example, I bought 3 pairs of jeans for my fashionable {sometimes picky} teenager, for a total of $6 (maybe even less, I recycled my receipt already).
The cheapest store brand jeans we usually find (that she likes) are $15 each on sale.
$15 x 3 pairs of jeans = $45 total
$45 (could’ve spent) – $6 (actually spent)= $39 SAVINGS
So rather than spending $45, I spent $6. That’s a savings of $39 that can be put somewhere else in our budget. In our case we splurged on some other pieces. Hello, have you heard of Matilda Jane? Their clothes are so well made and modest. When they go on sale we snatch them
Oh & guess what? My teen LOVES her new second hand store jeans!
New. Old. Whatever, it’s all the same once you remove the tags and run them through the wash anyway, right?
A friend told me once after I was feeling bad for spending $300 on a faucet (even though I love it) and cutting our budget in other areas, “it’s all about directing your money in the right places”.
Folks, let there be NO SHAME in spending hundreds on something that you’ll use and love, and still shopping second hand for other things.
You tell your money where to go, so it isn’t telling you! That’s a Dave Ramsey thing, right? Another tidbit from a sweet friend of mine, Stacy, of Humorous Homemaking. She’s smart AND funny, you should check her out!
