It was a Friday evening 17 years ago today, that at barely 18 years old, I hopped in my green Camaro with my big brother and drove to his friend’s house for a quick visit.
It was there that I’d meet the man that would become my husband, and his sweet + spunky one year old daughter (that I thought was his little sister).
There was a 3D kid’s movie playing on the TV in the living room. Mr. Awesome handed me his 3D glasses. I said I didn’t need them, I told him I wasn’t into 3D. He insisted I give it a try.
Side note: I’m still not into 3D movies and nearly barfed at one we went to early in our marriage. I had to close my eyes and take a siesta just to make it through! Ha!
Back to the story…
He said he was going to a parade the next day in his town. I let out a squeal, “I love parades! My Birthday is July 5th and there’s a parade and fireworks just.for.me in Clear Lake every year!”
In my defense, my parents had told me this every year since I was a baby, and I actually believed it.
He laughed, and said I should go with him. My brother’s friend’s girlfriend suggested Chad and I should exchange numbers so we could find each other at the parade.
Long story short, I ditched him on parade day (& several other days but he kept pursuing me). We will celebrate 15 years of marriage next month. I was able to adopt that sweet little girl when she was five, and she is now our ADULT daughter and the best big sister this family could ask for. I’m so glad everything worked out.
I don’t think anyone else on this Earth could handle my crazy, passionate, wildcard self the way he does. He inspires me and believes in me.
Growing into adulthood together has been intense and painful at times, but it’s also been so darn good. I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.
