As I begin to feel summer slipping away and fall sneaking its way in, I thought I’d share some snippets from this lovely summer.
True Story From the Smack Dab Middle of Summer: Mr. Awesome was out back staining the swing set. I watched him from the kitchen window for a little while (in a protective and loving way, because dang it was hot out there, and he had already worked all day).
Thoughts in my mind: Is he staying hydrated? Does he want help? What help would I be? Maybe he wants a snack? So many worries, so little time.
Maybe he preferred the peace and quiet of the backyard and in comparison didn’t give a hoot about the heat, BUT what if he didn’t? I couldn’t risk it.
I decided to bring our tribe of little kids out to play in the sandbox so we could keep him company.
I sat down in my favorite chair, watching our babies and chatting up my sweetie. There was a gentle breeze, and the sun would be setting soon. It was nearly perfect, except… every few seconds I was shooing little flies off my legs… or so I thought…
As I looked down I realized this wasn’t the case at all! EEEEEK!
Turns out it was just some leg hair blowing in the wind. No biggie.
Moral of the story: Things aren’t always as they seem. Don’t be so hard on yourself if it’s mid-summer in Iowa and you still haven’t shaved the winter coat off your legs. The thought of do I shave it, or save it, may have crossed my mind.
When I realized what was happening I said to myself, “Self, shake It off, this is not life or death or starving children business. This is silly stuff. Shave your legs the next time you think of it, or don’t- either way, everything will be fine”.
