Did you know that today is National Spouses Day? It’s okay if you didn’t, I just heard it on the news about 20 minutes ago!
Apparently each year on January 26th, National Spouses Day is observed. While I like to think that in a healthy marriage you’d just honor and celebrate your spouse everyday, I know that isn’t always the case. Not even in my own marriage, and I’ve been working at this being “slightly better” gig for quite a while now!
So today I encourage you to do something EXTRA thoughtful for your spouse today!
And I’ll do the same!
Because I’ll be honest, I was not the ideal spouse last night, and I could really use today to make it up. I wasn’t terrible, but lets just say I spent a little too much time staring at my phone screen and then all of a sudden it was time to put the kids to bed and I was worn out without any energy to even engage in a decent conversation… and I went back to the phone again. ugh! I need to learn some balance there!
Alright, here are some ideas of what you could do to celebrate or observe this day:
- A sweet text
- A nice meal
- A little gift
- Some honest conversation
- Vacuuming their car (mine could use it!)
- A warm blanket fresh out of the dryer at bedtime
- Making better eye contact and waiting for answers when you ask them a question
- A homemade coupon for a night out on the weekend
Your options are endless. Keep in mind, that being a good spouse is about showing love and commitment, and is much more a condition of the heart than of the wallet/purse. Don’t go too crazy on this, unless you really want to!
What ideas do you have of ways to celebrate National Spouses Day?
