Today I’m over on Periscope scoping about the fun little way we’re exploring United States Geography in our Homeschooling.
The three books I’m referencing are:
And this one, although it isn’t necessary for the way we’re doing this unit. This is just my favorite Atlas to have on hand for exploring in. It’s an older version, so you can find it used for super cheap!
We used this Atlas when we did Confessions of a Homeschooler’s Road Trip USA, which we still fall back on because it’s so packed full of fun facts and recipes!
The Dover Coloring Books come in a variety of topics and are great for any child, not just homeschoolers. My big kids received some for Christmas last year along with some “how to draw” coloring books from their Granny, and they’ve been a hit! They’re less than $5 a book and packed full of useful information and simple/beautiful graphics. After they’ve colored in them put you’ll want to add them to the bookshelf as a reference!
*I’m not using this as a stand alone curriculum for my kiddos, but as a supplement. If you have only little kiddos, I think this would be just fine for introducing the states. I have a teenager(eek!) so we do add in quite a bit more. She’s a visual learner, so we also find a variety of documentaries and shows like How The States got their Shapes for instance, to further our learning in Geography. Other resources we use are Trail Guide to Learning for drills, quizzes and map exploration.
