Food- Food is life-giving for everyone in this house. Homemade cookies are a nice way to show appreciation and let dad know that you think he is a “smart cookie”. <– See that? Dads aren’t the only ones with jokes! No time to bake? That’s okay, just put something from the store into a mason jar with a bow and/or card. It’s basically the same thing, right? My Grandma Edna’s Apple Pie would be perfect for a Father’s Day brunch.
Something for his hobby- This year especially, Mr. Awesome has been into cooking (can I order a new oven and call it a Father’s Day gift??) and gardening (This has always been his thing, but this year he’s spending more time at it because of rising food costs and our family diet, which is gluten-free, and 90% dairy-free). We’ve given him all kinds of hobby-related gifts over the years, depending on what he was really into. Golfing was a favorite, but he hasn’t golfed much lately, so we will skip that. Think of what your dad or husband is into RIGHT NOW, and go for that.
Keep Dad Hydrated with A Personalized Water Bottle- Mr. Awesome was still using a {bpa free} plastic water bottle, so we got him a stainless steel bottle. This says we care about his health AND style! I think the personalization made the switch a little easier. When ordering directly, simple Modern engraving is just $5 extra. I think that’s very affordable! If you already have the perfect bottle or tumbler you can check with a local trophy or engraving business to add a personal touch. Another idea is to add a vinyl sticker! We love THESE and they’re waterproof!
Acts of service or quality time together- Take his vehicle to the car wash, make him breakfast, lunch, and dinner, do some yard work, watch a baseball game together (even if it isn’t ‘your thing’).
Apparel- We try to keep things practical here. We also try to stay clothed (except the 4-year-old, he’s indifferent on the subject). Clothing and accessories like a hat or swim trunks are a useful gifts that can keep being enjoyed long after they’re opened. Think of what colors you see them wear often and go for that. I ordered Mr. Awesome THESE exact swim trunks from Wal-Mart for under $10 (free 2 day shipping over $35, which was easy to hit with laundry soap, and pull-ups)!
I know, this wasn’t quite the typical gift guide with the latest gadgets, but we like to keep things simple here. Practical gifts of health and well-being are so important. And hey, after all, this is slightly better than getting nothing at all, right?
