When I did the Passion Pursuit Bible Study I asked my husband a hard question.
It was “Where do you think I need to improve, or what can I do to be better for you?”
Now due to the nature of the study, you may be expecting something kinky. So before we go any further- I assure you, this is PG! And that study is AMAZING- Not at all what you’d think!
One of his responses was that he’d like me to have a meal idea ready and prepare supper at a decent time.
Remember I’m strong-willed, so my first reaction was to get defensive. Second was to take a step back and hear
what he wasn’t quite articulating. He wasn’t making it clear that he missed slow evening meals together as a family and having everyone together for visiting. But that is what he meant.
It wasn’t really about the FOOD at all.
Like most busy families, we had become accustomed to everyone eating quick and getting on to the next activity.
As per the gals in my Bible Study and the advice of the book itself, I accepted his request without trying to defend myself.
This simple move of preparing the meal and slowly eating together really put our family back on the right track.
I cannot even tell you people how important fully HONEST communication is.
By the way, if you need a good book on communication, try Speaking the Truth in Love. It’s so practical and explains why we need to be honest and assertive.
That’s all.
Have a good night ,Y’all!
