Last week, I decided to unplug the TV. Not because it’s all bad, but because it was stealing time we could be using better.
Instead of watching shows that don’t add much to our lives, I want to spend those minutes helping my kids learn new skills, reading together, or simply catching up on things around the house (the never ending tasks of being a blessed homemaker). Even 30 minutes matters in terms of productivity and improvement.
To make it easier, we started a family activity chart. Having ideas ready keeps us from defaulting to screens. Last night, even Daddy joined in and played dolls with us, a sweet memory I wouldn’t trade for any prime time TV show.
Warmer weather will bring even more options: dinner at the park, bike rides, and fun outdoors. Unplugging is already making room for better things.
I want to encourage you to look at what things in your life are not adding good value, and consider what you could replace them with instead.
