How to Make Hard Boiled Eggs in the Instant Pot

Using this simple 6-6-6 method you can make hard boiled eggs in the instant pot with no fuss at all! These peel better than any other method I've tried.

Woot Woot! Did you snag an Instant Pot on Prime Day? I did—I wasn’t even sure what I’d use it for, but I figured at least it would have good resale value if it didn’t earn its keep.

But now? After just a few uses, I can say this baby isn’t going anywhere. It even earned a permanent spot on my small appliance shelves (which were originally supposed to be for art supplies, but The Pioneer Woman inspired me otherwise. Love her!).

And let me tell you… these eggs peel like a dream.

My easy 6s Method for Perfect Hard Boiled Eggs in the Instant Pot:

  1. Use the rack the pot came with, add 1 cup of water to the bottom.

  2. Place in your eggs (I used 14).

  3. Turn the Steam Release to SEALING.

  4. Set to High Pressure and press Manual → 6 minutes.

  5. Let it naturally release steam for 6 minutes.

  6. Release the rest of the pressure, carefully pop the lid, and move eggs to ice water for 6 minutes.

That’s it. Easy to remember. Easy to peel. Done!

Note: The 6 minutes of cooking starts after the pot reaches full pressure.

I pulled these directions together after trying different recipes and videos, but I needed something simpler. Now that I’ve found what works, I had to share—because life’s too short for stubborn egg shells.

Hard Boiled Eggs in the Instant Pot

These eggs will peel like a dream!  Honest!
Course Side Dish
Prep Time 4 minutes
Cook Time 6 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of water
  • 1-2 dozen eggs

Instructions

  1. Use the rack the pot came with, put 1 cup of water in the bottom of the pot, then add the eggs (I used 14, but it can hold more- in my 8qt I do 3 dozen quite often).

  2. The Steam Release should be set to SEALING.
  3. Use High Pressure
  4. Press Manual and + or – to 6 minutes.
  5. Let the steam release on its own for about 6 more minutes (if it goes longer it wont hurt anything, other than your eggs eventually will turn brown if you go TOO long- they're still edible).

Release all the pressure, pop the lid off (carefully).

  1. Put the eggs in ice and water for another 6 minutes.

Recipe Notes

The 6 minutes of cooking time will start after the pot reaches full pressure.

Hey Friend! I am truly so glad that you’re here today!

At A Slightly Better Wife, I share about faith, homemaking, homeschooling, and marriage—along with my passion for creating a non-toxic, intentional home. Life isn’t about perfection, but I believe in making small, meaningful choices each day to do things slightly better than before.

My love for simple living and homemaking was deeply shaped by my grandparents. I have the best childhood memories of being in the kitchen with my Grandma Edna, learning the beauty of home-cooked meals and a well-tended home. My Grandpa Link’s storytelling and wisdom instilled in me the value of faith, family, and slowing down to listen during the little moments that make life rich. Their influence is woven into who I am today and I’m so grateful for that.

I’m a wife, a momma of 5, and a homemaker at heart. My husband and I met young, just days after my 18th birthday, and we quickly (like within a week) knew that forever was in our plans.

Together, we built our home on the edge of town, where we’re raising and homeschooling our children while embracing a simple, purposeful life in the city.

Here, you’ll find encouragement for your marriage, practical tips for homemaking, and inspiration to cultivate a home filled with faith and love. Whether you’re looking for a recipe, a fresh perspective, or just a place to feel understood, I hope you’ll stay awhile and explore.

Let’s pursue slightly better together!
