Armed with a bunch of spices, some measuring spoons, a big mixing bowl, and my mother-in-law’s recipe, I set out to make one of our long-time family favorites: Taco Seasoning Mix!
Each year we order enough beef to fill our deep freeze. When my husband and I first got married, the only thing I knew how to do with it was make Hamburger Helper (deep cringe). Over time, I learned how to make tacos and as I’ve settled more into my homemaker role, I’ve discovered all kinds of ways to make a basic pound of hamburger stretch into a family favorite. Tacos with this seasoning will always be at the top the list.
Taco Seasoning Mix
-
1/4 cup dried minced onion
-
1/4 cup chili powder
-
3 tbsp salt
-
4 tsp cornstarch
-
1 tbsp dried minced garlic
-
1 tbsp ground cumin
-
1 tbsp crushed red pepper flakes
-
2 tsp beef bouillon granules
-
1 1/2 tsp dried oregano
Mix all the ingredients together and store in an airtight container. Use 2 tbsp of the mix per pound of hamburger.
Tip: Taco meat is easy to make ahead of time and store in glass containers in the freezer perfect for busy nights when you need a quick, family-friendly meal!
