If You’re Looking to Declutter…
Sometimes it just feels good to clear out the clutter, doesn’t it? Here’s a short list of things you can probably toss (or recycle, if your area allows) today to make your home feel lighter and brighter.
Start in the closet:
Stained or worn t-shirts – We all have them tucked in the back of the closet “just in case.” In case of what? Keep one for painting or projects, and let the rest go.
Undergarments that don’t fit – Be honest with yourself. If they’re uncomfortable or ill-fitting, it’s okay to say goodbye. Your favorites deserve to be easily accessible, and your drawers will feel so much lighter!
Socks with holes – Not all of them, just the ones that cover less than 85% of your feet. It’s amazing how much peace you can feel when even the little things are tidy.
Old cell phones – Really old ones, the ones your carrier probably wouldn’t even recognize anymore. Those slightly outdated smart phones can still be perfect for kids to use as a tablet for games or learning. Bonus tip: thank my cousin for this one!
Junk mail – You know the kind: big prizes, personal questions, postage paid. Let it go. You’re not missing anything important.
Old magazines – The ones you’ve been saving out of guilt for not reading. Don’t worry, new issues will come, and the important stuff in life doesn’t live only in magazines.
Ratty towels – No need to hold on for crafts or shop rags. Toss them and save yourself the future “I should have thrown these” moment.
Expired condiments – Yep, this one’s for all the moms out there. A clean, fresh fridge is such a small thing that brings big joy. Virtual high five if you’ve already tackled this!
Anything truly “gross” in the fridge – Unless it’s part of a homeschool science experiment, it’s time to let it go. Clearly label any exceptions!
Bonus tip: Clear off your kitchen counter and give it a quick wipe-down. If your counter is normally the “catch all,” try keeping it clear through the weekend and notice how much it lifts your mood. I promise, it really works!
Decluttering isn’t just about tossing things—it’s about creating space for peace, joy, and ease in your home. Start small, pick one area today, and see how much lighter your home—and your heart—feels.
