Today Mr. Awesome and I are celebrating 12 years of marriage, and we want to celebrate with YOU! Woot Woot!
We were married before smartphones were everywhere and when digital photography still meant a long process of transferring files to a computer. Our family photographer actually lost the film that held our wedding pictures—and after all these years, they’ve never resurfaced. We’re fairly certain they were left behind in an abandoned storage unit somewhere. What can you do? Laughter is the best medicine, right? Thankfully, my dad snapped a few photos, and I treasure every one of them.
Would I have loved a beautiful wedding album? Of course. Yet, when I look back, the real beauty isn’t in the photos. It’s in the life we’ve built since that day. It’s waking up beside this man each morning. It’s the little ways he shows love: playing with my hair, putting away groceries when I’m worn out, or saying “I love you” when I’ve been far from lovable. It’s game nights with Iota, trying new craft beers, scooter rides with the kids, and sitting by the garden watching him dig in the dirt. The small, simple moments are the sweetest ones, because we’re together.
Through pregnancies, hardships, and even the mornings when I literally needed him to roll me out of bed while expecting baby number four, he has stood by me. He has seen me at my weakest and loved me still. Those are gifts beyond anything wedding pictures could capture.
Most of all, this marriage is nothing without God. Truly, He deserves the greatest praise. I know myself—I can be quick to react, impulsive, and fiery. Without my commitment to God, I would’ve given up long ago. He is the one who holds us together.
So to the wives reading this: if you ever find yourself on a hard day, ready to walk away, don’t. Take it to God. Share your burdens with Him. Your husband cannot meet every need or desire of your heart, but God can. He is faithful, and He will strengthen you to keep going.
Here’s to 12 years, and Lord willing, many more to come. 💕
