Elderberry Syrup

Keeping a strong immune system is a top priority for this busy momma.

I had heard of the benefits of elderberry syrup but hadn’t tried it myself until I picked up a bottle on a whim last fall from a friend’s shop, White Barn Picket Fence in Algona, IA. While they don’t sell this product online, there are so many cute items in the shop that can be shipped, go browse a little and I assure you, you will be inspired!

My husband fell in love with the flavor and truly believed it helped him knock out a cold quicker than ever.

This winter I bought an Elderberry Syrup Kit from an Instagram momma that I have followed for years, Lexie, of Lexie Naturals. I also bought some clearance lip balm from her shop that was amazing! Making the syrup in our Instant Pot was super easy- I mean it! Dump in the contents of the kit, add water, cook, cool, pour in a jar. She’ll give you the specifics, but it’s basically that simple.

Mary Ruth’s Organics reached out to me last month and asked if I’d be interested in trying one of their products. Elderberry syrup was on the list, and I thought it’d be fun to sample theirs as well. I like that it comes with a dropper, so it’s totally mess-free. It is concentrated, so it can be added to water, or taken as is.

I would say all three are comparable in taste (yum) and as far as I can tell *knock on wood* they’ve all doing the job of keeping us well!

Mary Ruth’s Organics Elderberry Syrup has no added sugar, which as you know, avoiding sugar is super important in supporting the immune system.

PS. Thank you @Maryruthorganics for letting our family give this a good long try before sharing the word online. As much as I love partnering with companies, I will always be sure of three things when working with a company:

First: The product is a good fit for our family and lifestyle.

Second: That I can truly try the product before sharing

Third: That the company is on board with me sharing my honest opinions, even if they are constructive rather than full praise.

By doing this I can be sure that I am being true to my own values, and sharing authentically for YOU, my dear readers. I’d never want to persued you to buy a product that I didn’t fully believe in.

What are YOU Doing to Support Your Immune System?

Full disclosure: My husband and I both take elderberry syrup, as well as our oldest daughter (17.5). We haven’t introduced it to our younger three children (3, 7, 12) as I haven’t discussed it with their pediatrician and there hasn’t been an occasion that I thought they would need it. Thankfully they have very strong immune systems all on their own!

Hey Friend! I am truly so glad that you’re here today!

At A Slightly Better Wife, I share about faith, homemaking, homeschooling, and marriage—along with my passion for creating a non-toxic, intentional home. Life isn’t about perfection, but I believe in making small, meaningful choices each day to do things slightly better than before.

My love for simple living and homemaking was deeply shaped by my grandparents. I have the best childhood memories of being in the kitchen with my Grandma Edna, learning the beauty of home-cooked meals and a well-tended home. My Grandpa Link’s storytelling and wisdom instilled in me the value of faith, family, and slowing down to listen during the little moments that make life rich. Their influence is woven into who I am today and I’m so grateful for that.

I’m a wife, a momma of 5, and a homemaker at heart. My husband and I met young, just days after my 18th birthday, and we quickly (like within a week) knew that forever was in our plans.

Together, we built our home on the edge of town, where we’re raising and homeschooling our children while embracing a simple, purposeful life in the city.

Here, you’ll find encouragement for your marriage, practical tips for homemaking, and inspiration to cultivate a home filled with faith and love. Whether you’re looking for a recipe, a fresh perspective, or just a place to feel understood, I hope you’ll stay awhile and explore.

Let’s pursue slightly better together!
