Proverbs 31:15
“She rises also while it is yet night and provides food for her household.”
Over the years, I’ve come to realize that this verse speaks to more than just breakfast. Yes, it can certainly mean the literal food that nourishes our family’s bodies, but it can also point to the spiritual “food” we provide through love, prayer, and intentional care for those God has entrusted to us.
When I was newly married, I thought rising early to serve my husband was just about making sure his breakfast was hot and his keys were ready, and while those little acts of service are meaningful, I’ve since learned that what really makes a difference is the heart behind them.
Waking up early (even when the mornings are cold and my bed is warm) gives me a chance to set the tone for my home. It’s less about “doing all the things” and more about creating an atmosphere of peace, love, and encouragement before the day begins. Sometimes that looks like a packed lunch and a hot breakfast. Other times it’s simply speaking words of blessing over him, or sending him out the door with prayer and a smile.
Marriage is a partnership, about giving our best to each other, even in small ways. When I’m intentional about serving my husband with joy, it strengthens our bond and makes our home a place he longs to return to. When he serves me in his own way, my heart overflows with gratitude.
I don’t get it right every day, but by God’s grace, I’m learning that these little daily choices, rising early, showing kindness, offering prayer, being present, are seeds that grow into a marriage full of love, respect, and joy.
I cherish those simple, sweet moments when we slip away for a grocery run or a quiet walk together. Time just the two of us is always needed and always appreciated. Marriage is built in both the ordinary everyday mornings and the special evenings.
May we as wives continue to rise, sometimes literally, and always spiritually, to bless our homes and honor the Lord in the way we love.
