I used to work at a pizza place all through high school. One day, during a busy shift, I called to a co-worker, “Hey, they need you back here.” He grumbled, “They don’t need me. They just need somebody.”
At the time, I didn’t think much of it, but over the years, that phrase stuck with me. For a long time, I felt like nobody really needed me, like I wasn’t anything special, like I was easily replaceable.
Here’s what I’ve learned: people may come and go, but no one is truly replaceable. Every soul in this world leaves an impact, whether big or small in the grand scheme of the world. Sometimes it’s a tiny gesture that seems insignificant, a smile to the cashier, holding a door for a moment longer, placing spare change in a penny dish at a cash register. Those little things add up. They ripple outward in ways we may never see.
So let me remind you: you are important. You do matter. Maybe someone could fill your job position, but a job does not define who you are. Maybe someone steps in to help with a task, but your love, guidance, and presence in the lives of your family are unique and irreplaceable.
Life is short. While we are here, our purpose is to care, to share, to encourage, and to love. Don’t waste your days worrying about wealth, status, or what someone said years ago. Focus instead on the small, meaningful ways you bless the lives around you.
Personal Application:
Think about a gift or skill you have and share it. Bake something for a neighbor. Offer help when someone is struggling. Those simple acts matter.
Parental Application:
Help your children discover their gifts and share them. Remind them they are special. Guide them to use their abilities to bless others.
Enjoy the little things. Celebrate the small victories. You are making a difference every single day, even when it doesn’t feel like it.
