18 inch doll PJ shirt & tu-tu

My oldest daugther has been wanting to learn how to sew.  We decided this week to go ahead and tackle her first sewing machine project! Because it was her first project we started off simple. We took a onesie that no longer fit her baby sister and hemmed it into a PJ shirt for the doll. Thrifty ...

DIY: 18 Inch American Girl Knock Off Turns Into a BOY!

About a month ago I took the kids to the American Girl store. My oldest daughter loves their dolls, so I was looking to get a boy one for my son. When I realized how crazy expensive they were, I started searching the internet for a do it yourself (cheaper) option. My sweet girl is trying to earn a ...

Organizing Clothes

I bought one of these little gems last year for my daughter. It was perfect for organizing her clothes for the week. Each Sunday we picked out 5 outfits. The Monday outfit was placed on top, and Tues-Fri's were put into the drawers. Once in a while we would put Monday-Thursday in the drawers, and ...

They’re only things

WARNING: I am obsessed with being closer to Jesus, and making my home a happy place. I've read some great books lately that have really changed the way I feel about "stuff".  First was Organized simplicity, then at the suggestion of my former sister-in-law, I read Almost Amish.  I feel like I am in ...

Declutter: Magazines

The neighbor just stopped down for a few minutes.  While we were all talking in the kitchen I sort of mindlessly started a recycling pile of store ads & magazines from around the kitchen. Isn't it funny how you realize your messes so much more in front of company. It wasn't a terribly big stack, ...

Ditching Toxins- 1 Year Later

Almost exactly a year ago I posted about how freaked out I am by toxins.  Since then I DID actually pull out the lotions that had parabens listed in the ingredients, or had a list of ingredients longer than I cared to read. I tried making my own deodorant (& toothpaste), which worked better ...

Learning something new.

My friend Jennifer came over last weekend and taught me how to knit. I'm thankful for this new activity, & getting to spend time with her. I'm not sure if it is something I will keep up, but it has been fun to try. As I struggled with how to hold the needles and where to put the yarn, I realized ...

Hey Friend! I am truly so glad that you’re here today!

At A Slightly Better Wife, I share about faith, homemaking, homeschooling, and marriage—along with my passion for creating a non-toxic, intentional home. Life isn’t about perfection, but I believe in making small, meaningful choices each day to do things slightly better than before.

My love for simple living and homemaking was deeply shaped by my grandparents. I have the best childhood memories of being in the kitchen with my Grandma Edna, learning the beauty of home-cooked meals and a well-tended home. My Grandpa Link’s storytelling and wisdom instilled in me the value of faith, family, and slowing down to listen during the little moments that make life rich. Their influence is woven into who I am today and I’m so grateful for that.

I’m a wife, a momma of 5, and a homemaker at heart. My husband and I met young, just days after my 18th birthday, and we quickly (like within a week) knew that forever was in our plans.

Together, we built our home on the edge of town, where we’re raising and homeschooling our children while embracing a simple, purposeful life in the city.

Here, you’ll find encouragement for your marriage, practical tips for homemaking, and inspiration to cultivate a home filled with faith and love. Whether you’re looking for a recipe, a fresh perspective, or just a place to feel understood, I hope you’ll stay awhile and explore.

Let’s pursue slightly better together!
